Stupid question, how to keep NT multi-boot if I install Win 95
The
first question is whether the floppy disk drive has failed. I suggest that you download a Wisdows Startup Disk, put this in drive A: before you turn on the computer, and see whether the computer can boot from drive A:. You can obtain a Windows Startup Disk at: http://www.bootdisk.com/ Also, the "Ultimate Boot

Question concerning boot process
Can
i install XP twice on different partions and dual boot between them? Thanks in advance for any help Best regards It is technically possible. I do suggest you rename your Windows folder on the second install to a different variation of Windows. Using a bootmanager would probably be preferable if you want to keep

Question about CD-ROM Setup Boot Disk
The load order is the same. Note that if you set BootGUI=0 in MSDOS.SYS '95 will boot to a DOS 7 prompt. Add WIN to the end of AUTOEXEC.BAT to invoke the Windows 95 loader; delete or rename LOGOS.SYS (which is merely the "It is now safe..." bitmap) and when you exit Windows you'll be back at the DOS prompt.

question to W98 update authorization
Every machine with TCP/IP networking is called localhost.localdomain, in addition to any other names it may have. The host name is read at boot time from /etc/sysconfig/network (in Red Hat, other distributions may have a different mechanism), so you have to set the name there as well as in /etc/hosts.

Another LILO question (2 Drives & 3 OS)
None of us knew if it was possible to interrupt the normal boot process and somehow rename the file. The problem was finally resolved by using RLogin from another Sparc to rename the file. My questions: If your machine is normally networked, you could probably telnet in and fix stuff, then reboot.

Boot Question - Please wait while windows updates...
Ok, very last OT posting: Dual boot is as easy as answersing yes to the answer during installation, but never mind. Hard Drive & Memory Question
Thanks, Austin LILO needs some additional files to boot, specifically the map file which is usually in /boot. The safest thing is to copy all of /boot from the linux drive to the win98 drive, rename /boot to something like /boot.linux and make a symlink from the win98 boot directory to /boot, then run /sbin/lilo to

RENAMING a User Profile / Cookies?- followup question
If I enter at the boot prompt: mount root=/dev/hda2 ro If that's all you need, do rdev -R /vmlinuz 1 rdev /vmlinuz /dev/hda2 and don't mess with floppies. I thought you said your root was beyond the 1023rd cylinder and your BIOS didn't have LBA. But your kernel is out there. Why do people rename zImage to vmlinuz;

New Boot Drive install question.
Have you tried renaming these two files (eg autoexec.b and config.s) and attempting to boot? Final Question on Install (From me that is)
Whether you're actually still running that software or not is open to question, given the error message. Rather than deleting, I just rename questionable files like this. That effectively disables them, but they're still around should some need arise in the short term future (like the system blows up :-) The

Renaming boot disk and reinstallation of XP
You
can't copy or delete them, but you could probably rename or lock/unlock them. ProDOS 8 returns unsupported storage_type when you try to rename an extended file. Actually, there is a reason: it might be something belonging to another file system, and renaming it may prevent it from being accessed any more.

Windows question
Hey, can I ask another Real Stoopid [TM] question? What's the point of symlinking bootblocks? They're gonna have to be on the same device anyway in order for the symlink to resolve [ie the bootblocks know jack about where other devices will be mounted!], why not just hard-link if you have to link at all?
